Worth Noting:
- The strength of influence does not matter whether the cause is good or bad. The most important thing to know is that it will have an impact on you.
- If you are at work place and your seat is near that of a high performer there is a high likelihood that you will be influenced and your output level will significantly improve due to the positive spillover effect. The level of influence will be greater if your neighbour possess complimentary skills than when both of you have similar skills. This is the major reason why multi-sectoral teams perform better compared to teams comprising of specialists who belong to a single field of study.
According the world Health Organization report in the month of May 2020 there is no safe level of exposure to second-hand tobacco smoke which causes more than 1.2 million premature deaths per year and serious cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. Almost half of children regularly breathe air polluted by tobacco smoke in public places, and 65 000 die each year from illnesses attributable to second-hand smoke. In infants, it raises the risk of sudden infant death syndrome. In pregnant women, it causes pregnancy complications and low birth weight.
The reason for highlighting the effects of second hand smoke is to illustrate that the one you sit or live next to or your neighbour have great influence in your life whether you consume his services directly or indirectly, consciously or subconsciously. There are the spillover over effects whether good or bad. Second hand smoke means that you are not personally smoking but you are affected by smoke from someone else near you who is a smoker.
Human wants are unlimited, we need many resources to have large coverage of these many wants so you find quite large number of families both the husband and wife are employed, they hire house help to bring up their children, as you are aware everyone is a product of life experiences that one have gone through so it is not a wonder that you may find the children behaving like the house girls who they spent much time with instead of taking after the parents behaviour who were busy looking for career and monetary growth.
In some incidences it happens that the employers who are child parents want to have control over what is happening in their homes and to their children at the same time remain economical in their spending so they opt for cheap labour by employing an unexposed house help who is also not independent in decision making so that whatever she wants to do she have to consult the boss first. A deeper analysis of why some of these house helps take these jobs is due to economic hardships in their families which pushes them to accept an offer regardless of its poor pay scale. You may happen to find that some of these bosses instill fear to their house helps as a way of exercising authority. The overall effect is that the nanny models the kids as per her knowledge. If she exhibits good manners the child imitates her, similarly if she exhibits bad manners the child just imitates. Had the parents uplifted the status and way of doing thing of their staff the spillover effect will be manifested in their kids mind you a child learns more through observation than through verbal communication. These upbringing effects are manifested in the child life even as a grown up.
The same formula that applies to the relationship between the parents and nanny extends to the rest of staff in the family who the children have close proximity to for example a farm worker or a regular technician at home who interacts with the children may be imitated by them, the way they are treated by the boss the way they behave the kid will just emulate them if anything they are the ones who are near him or her most of the time more so during the day time when the child is awake.

Similarly if you sit next to a toxic neighbour there are possibilities of him affecting how you do your work and it is important to note that negative influence is more impactful than positive influence. You may find in an estate a single criminal who mugs people at night instills fear among residents to an extent that everyone returns home early. Â If it happens that the residents gathers courage and decide to confront the criminal and overpower him, they feel happy for the victory at the same time they feel ashamed that a single person can frustrate more than a thousand residents. Through their experience many tends to develop an attitude of brutality when dealing with those who go against them or whom they dislike and it is not a wonder that they may become bullies as they are aware that if you intimidate people and mistreat them they will tend to fear you.
When Germany was split into two east and west between 1949 and1989 there noticeable differences between the two sides. There are those people who argue that the signing of unification treaty between the two German countries east and west on October 1990 was a signal of decline of Soviet domination in Eastern Europe. Western Germany was occupied Americans, Britons and the French and their economic model was inclined to capitalism whereas that of East Germany was inclined to communism. The two countries of Germany were separated by the Berlin wall which was built in August 1961. Life in West Germany was advanced while East Germans remained poor, the eastern Germans were jealous of their western neighbours prosperity and one day they decided to collect a pile of garbage and throw it to their western neighbours to provoke their anger, to their surprise the West Germans collected good food items and threw to East Germans with a note written “Thank you for giving. We can only give what we have. Hopefully it will be useful to you, my brothers and sisters. “This made the East Germans to feel ashamed of their actions. This is a demonstration of what a neigh can do.
In conclusion be aware of your neighbour, know that in your history he will have a chapter and cultivate the culture of being a good neighbour. Know that every encounter has its significance.
