The Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, Salim Mvurya, met a visiting delegation from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to assess preparations for the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024. The delegation was led by CAF Secretary General Véron Mosengo-Omba.
Speaking after the meeting at Talanta Plaza, Mvurya said the government remains committed to supporting the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) in delivering a safe and well-run tournament. He noted that the Ministry would continue to strengthen the work of key organizers and event teams to ensure the championship reflects Kenya’s capacity to host continental events of high calibre.
“We value CAF’s technical guidance and oversight. This collaboration is central to meeting the expectations of participating nations and football fans across Africa,” he stated.
The talks also focused on logistics, matchday operations, and measures to maintain the tournament’s vibrancy for both players and spectators. CAF officials welcomed the progress made so far and encouraged continued coordination between national and continental bodies.
The meeting was attended by Sports Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi, LOC Chair Nicholas Musonye, CHAN CEO Mike Rabar, FKF President Hussein Mohammed, and senior government officials.
